Три погледа към Съединението от 1885 г.
Language: Bulgarian

The Treaty of Berlin created the so-called National Question, which reflected the idea of uniting all parts of the Bulgarian nation in a single state structure. National and regional leaders suddenly realized that freedom led to a new, no easier to solve problem. Bulgarians found themselves in five different state, religious, linguistic, educational and cultural environments. Where the nation would go, what the reaction to the peaceful solutions would be, what could be practically done, were all difficult questions awaiting a solution. National leaders formulated the two main tasks on the national question - the first, the unification of both sides of the Balkans. To this end, action was taken to create an identical state structure in Plovdiv and Sofia. For the other task, the great sorrow of all - Macedonia...
The date is March 14, 1879, the Constitution has not yet been solemnly signed, a Bulgarian prince has not yet been elected, and executive power is still in foreign hands - the plan, however, has been developed and practically adopted. Only seven years after the Treaty of Berlin, the Bulgarian people found the strength to reject half of the treaty's clauses and unite the two autonomies. Bulgaria emerged from the crisis with an almost doubled territory and population, which moved it forward in Balkan relations. The country had increased self-confidence, which allowed it to take on the next tasks of the nation. Unification was undoubtedly the country's greatest diplomatic and military success after the Liberation.
