The Unification is one of the well-known and heroic episodes in modern Bulgarian history. On September 6, 1885, the troops of General Danail Nikolaev established control over Plovdiv and removed the governor-general of Eastern Rumelia, Gavril Krstevich, from power. Thus, the autonomous province joined the Principality of Bulgaria, and this political act was defended two months later in the Serbian-Bulgarian War. Thus, the autonomous province joined the Principality of Bulgaria, and this political act was defended two months later in the Serbian-Bulgarian War. This book examines this important moment through a different lens. The author presents the heroes of this historical act – the first Bulgarian diplomats. Along with the struggle for the unification of a divided nation and the complex political game directed by the Great Powers, the book recounts the life stories of those who defended our national interests with dignity.
