Retranslation: Theories and Practices
Препреводът — теории и практики
Language: Bulgarian
The book is devoted to retranslation as a phenomenon in the history of literary translation and cultural exchange. The first part addresses issues related to the definition of retranslation, the motives for creating new translations of already translated texts, the linguistic and extralinguistic factors that influence the choice of works for retranslation, and the intertextual relations between a series of translations of the same original. The second part examines the three Bulgarian translations of Franz Kafka's Die Verwandlung. The analysis takes into account the broad context of the author's reception in world and Bulgarian translation, the individual profiles of the three translators—Dimitar Stoevski, Ventsislav Konstantinov, Lyubomir Iliev, the linguistic and stylistic features of the work that are relevant to the translation, as well as the receptive reactions to the different translation versions.
