Carthage and the Punic World is a popular history book about Carthage and Punic civilization. It traces the development, from its origins to its destruction, of one of the two most powerful ancient states in the Mediterranean during the 1st millennium BCE. Carthage was a great economic, political, and cultural power from the 8th to the 2nd century BCE. Its history unfolded amid conflict and interaction, first with the Greeks and later with the Romans, leading to its dominance over the entire Mediterranean between the 6th and 3rd centuries BCE. Through this book, we learn about the Carthaginians, their origins and history, their political and social organization, as well as their culture, arts, and literature. We also learn the basics about the organization of the city-state: its politics, society, trade, and economy.
