Theodor Trayanov: The Poet of Suffering and the Greatness of the Bulgarian Spirit
Теодор Траянов. Поетът на страданието и величието на българския дух
Language: Bulgarian
This book is the most detailed biography of one of the greatest—yet most unjustly forgotten—Bulgarian poets. Born in Pazardzhik into an enlightened Macedonian family with revolutionary roots, Teodor Trayanov studied architecture in imperial Vienna, served as a diplomat, fought in the Balkan War, founded the Symbolist magazine *Hyperion*, and is considered a leading figure in Bulgarian poetry. He died in poverty and solitude on January 15, 1945, just months after the establishment of communist rule. This biography reveals the lesser-known facets of Trayanov—the brilliant chess player, the passionate nationalist, the loyal friend of the VMRO, the loving father, and the man whose fate was inextricably intertwined with that of the actress Dora Dyustabanova. Based on archival documents, personal letters, the recollections of contemporaries, and previously unpublished photographs, the book restores the poet to his rightful place in the pantheon of the Bulgarian spirit.
