   A significant number of very interesting Late Byzantine silver coins of large denomination (stavrata) were repeatedly offered for purchase to the National Museum of History in Sofia between 1983 and 1985. From the first glance, it becomes clear that the coins belonged to some large hoard, similar to which no other Bulgarian museum possesses. The National Museum of History made every effort to acquire as many specimens as possible from the hoard for its numismatic collection. In about three years (from 1983 to 1985) we were able to redeem a total of 198 coins. Ten years later, the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs seized another 112 exemplars of the coin hoard thus preventing the attempt to illegally export them across the border. These coins also entered the numismatic collection of the NHM  Sofia. Thus, the museum currently stores a total of 310 stavrata of this hoard, extremely important from a  scientific point of view...
