The book consists of three parts, united by the paradigmatic construct of mentorship, with a focus on three rituals in the literature of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. The first part deals with the meetings of communist leaders Georgi Dimitrov, Vulko Chervenkov, and Todor Zhivkov with Bulgarian writers and the specifics of this type of communication: Dimitrov's instructions, Chervenkov's meetings and lectures, and Zhivkov's speeches and behind-the-scenes interventions. The second part examines the phenomenon of writers' "self-criticism": a ritual involving figures such as Dimitar Talev, Dimim Dimov, Vladimir Vassilev, Slavcho Krasinski, Fani Popova-Mutafova, Valeri Petrov, Penyo Penev, Nikola Furnadzhiev, Bogomil Rainov, and others. It shows the drama of Bulgarian authors trying to preserve their autonomy and dignity, but also the mechanisms for producing loyalty developed by the totalitarian state between 1946 and 1962. The third part examines the model of "conversation with young people," through which a specific administrative and pedagogical power is exercised, seeking to discipline and propagandize young writers under the guise of "creative guidance" and "professional conversation." Three rituals representative of the literature of the early People's Republic.
