Boyko Belenski. Stambolov: The Will to Build a State
Бойко Беленски. Стамболов. Воля за държава
Category: Modern Bulgarian History
Language: Bulgarian

The merit of Boyko Belenski’s book on Stambolov is that it manages to minimize the inevitable authorial commentary and let the characters speak for themselves. Before us stands the vivid, authentic image of Stefan Stambolov, as he likely was: a man of flesh and blood, possessed by purely human—including sinful—passions, yet driven by a will to serve the Fatherland and Bulgarian statehood that is unparalleled in our history. Both a ruler and a martyr of his time.
