Origins. Numbers (mystical poems). Formulas of the Universe. The poetics of numbers (studies)
Many Greek mathematicians (especially Archimedes) were also poets, using numbers and calculus not only aesthetically but also for political purposes. The mystics sought the hidden meaning of numbers, to see in them secret truths and portentous predictions. Our interest constantly turns to Pythagoras, whom we consider one of the greatest philosophers before Plato: he discovered number as the structuring element of the cosmos - an extreme abstraction from the corporeality of the constituent "roots" in Parmenides and Empedocles. The quantitative principle of cosmogony replaces the qualitative, corporeal one.
