A book about John Elder of Mount Athos. Volume 2: Θεοτοκάριον
Книга за атонския старец Йоан. Том 2
Language: Bulgarian, Slavonic
In the early decades of the 14th century, the Great Lavra of St. Athanasius on Mount Athos sheltered three Bulgarians: the Venerable Elder John, the Venerable Elder Joseph, and the Venerable John Kukuzel the Angel-Voiced. Through them, a stylistic and expressive adaptation of the verbal and musical melodies in the Old Bulgarian liturgical texts began to take shape. One of the first books adapted from Greek by Elder John was the eight-tone anthology *Theotokarion*. In this volume, the oldest manuscript is published in both a transcribed text and as a facsimile.
