Disasters and catastrophes in history (Kyustendil readings 2023)
Бедствия и катастрофи в историята (Кюстендилски четения 2023)
Language: Bulgarian
Disasters accompanied the development of our planet long before the advent of human race. Some of these disasters lead to catastrophic consequences for nature. The number of cataclysms is unidentifiable even for the relatively short history of the Earth inhabited by homo sapiens. That disasters have had a profound impact on humanity we understand from historical documents, archaeological excavations and mythology, and in modern times from the media and sometimes from our own experience. Some of the disasters of recent centuries have been caused by human activity. The destructive role of man has increased over the years, and the most significant catastrophes in the modern era are the product of human interactions. Global disasters, such as the Black Death and the two world wars, inflict deep psychological trauma, affect the mentalities of generations and give rise to dramatic social, economic and political changes.
