The Balkan-Anatolian Community in Antiquity
Балкано-анатолийската общност в древността
Language: Bulgarian
In the Balkan-Anatolian region, innovations are taking place that shape the course of history. The main ones are: the emergence of the Hellenic polis, the alphabetical script and coinage. The polis shapes the concept of individual freedom. The alphabetical script puts an end to the mystery of literacy. Scientific knowledge, literature and history became widely accessible. Without coins as a means of assigning value to everything, there could be no market for independent producers competing on the quality of their goods. All these innovations did not arise by chance, but together and within a single region of the Ancient World. This region possesses specific economic and cultural characteristics, rooted in its natural endowments, which shaped the creative energy of what has been termed the Balkan-Anatolian community. Our lands were part of it – from the Early Bronze Age to the 7th century CE. And perhaps even to this day?
