N. Danova et al. (eds.). Three Zographou Condica (1799—1807)
Original title: Три зографски кондики (1799—1807)
Category: Slavic manuscript tradition (15th—18th)
Language: Bulgarian
The edition includes three condica — №55, №245 and №246, which are kept in the archive of the Zograf Monastery on Mount Athos. The manuscripts are accounting books that describe all income and expenses, debts and loans of the monastic community made in the period 1799—1807. The books are an important source for the spiritual and material life in the monastery, for the organization of the monasticism of Athos, for the monastery economy, about the contacts with other monasteries and with the Ottoman power, about the relations of the monastery with the Orthodox Christians of the Balkans, about the pilgrimage to Athos and about the construction of the monastery buildings. The information also sheds light on the economic history of the region at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century — the trade in grain and livestock, the prices of goods and services, the payment of various types of labor, etc.
