   The April Uprising is the most significant event in the Bulgarian national liberation movement. The book begins with a background to the uprising, examining the state of the revolutionary movement on the eve of the Eastern Crisis. It then moves on to the formation of the Giurgiu Committee, the decision to launch a new uprising, and numerous aspects related to its preparation and execution. Particular attention is paid to the atrocities committed during the suppression, as well as to the strong international reaction that followed.
