Stara Zagora Uprising, 1875: A documentary chronicle
„Заарското въстание“ 1875 година: документален летопис
Category: Bulgarian National Revival
Language: Bulgarian
In the history of the Bulgarian national liberation movement, 1875 was marked by drama, ideological clashes, personal conflicts, and fateful twists and turns. On August 12, the Bulgarian Revolutionary Committee was established in Bucharest, which, in the context of the Eastern Crisis that had begun in Herzegovina and Bosnia, planned to organize a "national uprising." A concrete plan was drawn up to prepare for the uprising, but on the appointed date, attempts at armed action were made only in Stara Zagora, Ruse, and Shumen. The documentary chronicle for 1875, compiled on the basis of available historical evidence, allows us not only to trace the chronology of events that took place 150 years ago, but also to touch upon the authentic atmosphere of the Revival period, when more radical-minded emigrant activists refused to wait for someone else to resolve the Bulgarian political issue and openly declared their desire to reject the five-century-long Ottoman yoke themselves.
