“One Belt, One Road”: The Chinese Perspective

     The “One Belt, One Road” initiative is the first and most significant effort of China since the beginning of the reforms and opening up to the world in the late 1970s. The rapid economic upturn over the past thirty years has led to major transformations not only in the structure of Chinese society but also in the way the Chinese are watching the world. This change in attitudes is becoming more apparent after the financial crisis of 2007—2008 and the subsequent economic crisis. When Chinese President Xi Jinping presents his vision “One Belt, One Road” it became clear that Beijing will seek new ways to develop and establish itself in the world as a “Great power”.
