The Autobiographical Short Story in Postwar German-Language Literature
Автобиографичният разказ в следвоенната немскоезична литература
Language: Bulgarian. Category: Western European Literature
How should we interpret an author’s decision to give voice to a character who recounts the story of his life in an unreliable manner? In his monograph, Ivan Popov traces the development of the so-called “unreliable narrator”—a figure who, for various reasons, captured the interest of writers from Austria and Switzerland during the second half of the 20th century. The author organizes the literary material in a diachronic sequence, revealing the complex mechanisms through which the postwar German-language tradition entered into a productive dialogue with philosophical discourse, as well as with the processes that led to fundamental changes in the culture of Western European societies of that era.
