   The publication collects stories about events and personalities that left a bright mark in the field of medicine. Medicine - this greatest of all arts, as the ancient philosophers called it, has come a long way from prehistory to today's technological heights. This path is often meandering, tripped up by prejudice and social obstacles, sometimes takes wrong turns and bogs down in scholasticism, but in the end invariably finds the right direction. Thanks to doctors, scientists, philosophers, discoverers and inventors, a random observation becomes the occasion for one scientist to ascertain a given fact, a decade later for another to study and describe it in more detail, a century later for a third to offer a logical explanation, and only then a fourth doctor to prove the correctness of the hypothesis. Thus, everyone jointly contributes to the specific medical achievement.
