   The book illustrates a little-known but important part of the history of the Bulgarian community in Macedonia and Eastern Thrace. At the center of the study are women who come out into the public sphere and demonstrate their individuality in a still patriarchal, premodern society. The author focuses on female's activities, represented by education, women's societies and the revolutionizing of women through the activity of Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMАRO) in the historical-geographical regions of Macedonia and Eastern Thrace of the Ottoman Empire.
