   When in 1933 Otto Dietrich became Hitler's press chief, he was convinced that the Führer was a great man, dedicated to the peace and welfare of the German people. Dietrich met with Hitler every day during World War II. When major events happened, Dietrich determined the way they were reflected in Germany and abroad. Five months after the war ended, Dietrich began writing this book in a British camp. He finished it in 1948. The manuscript was taken out of prison with instructions to publish it after his death.  The book presents one of the clearest psychological analyses of Hitler. What attracted millions of Germans to the Nazis? The answer lies in the abbreviation NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers' Party). Hitler, Dietrich argues, offered Germans socialism with a German face - an ethnic state containing the racial essence of the German people.
