Deities of destiny: The Ancient World: The Near East, Egypt, India, Ancient Greece, and Rome, among the Thracians
Божества на съдбата: Древният свят. Близкият изток, Египет, Индия, Древна Гърция и Рим, при траките
Language: Bulgarian
The book explores the deities of fate in eleven ancient traditions: Mesopotamia, the Hittites and Zoroastrian Iran, Ancient Egypt, India from the Vedic period to classical Hinduism, Minoan Crete, pre-Islamic Arabia, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, the Etruscans, the Basques, and the Thracians. The book traces the evolution of mythological thought—from absolute predestination to an increasingly nuanced understanding that human actions shape one’s own destiny. Тhe study of ancient deities of fate shows that religious concepts do not exist in isolation from social, economic, and political realities. They are a product of specific historical conditions and change along with the societies that create them. Understanding this dynamic is key to the study of cultural anthropology and the history of religions.
