Atheistic politics in communist Bulgaria. Documentary collection: Part 3
Атеистичната политика в комунистическа България. Част 3
Language: Bulgarian
The documentary collection reveals the ideology and practice of the totalitarian regime for social engineering in the field of religion. The policy of the Bulgarian Communist Party "for the eradication of religious superstitions and prejudices, for atheistic education and the introduction of new socialist civic rituals" is aimed at the most intimate moments of human life. Its realization in Bulgarian conditions is subject to general tendencies for the Communist bloc, but it also has its peculiarities related to the confessional picture in the country. Hence, the main purpose of this edition is to present with documents the methods and results of this policy in the different districts of the country, differing from each other both in the religious affiliation of their population and in the activities of the district party committees and local authorities. The third part begins with the decision of the State Council of the National People's Republic of Bulgaria from April 1978 "Basic guidelines for the development and improvement of the holiday-ritual system in the Republic of Bulgaria" and ends with the last attempts at "mobilization" in 1989.
