In the footsteps of the Moravian and Timok Bulgarians. Volume 2
По следите на моравските и тимошките българи
Language: Bulgarian

The book examines a forgotten historical question, deliberately ignored by the scholarship after the World War I as a result of the defeatist apathy that gripped Bulgarian society. This question is related to the fate and serbization of the Moravian and Timok Bulgarians who inhabit the historical regions of Moravia and Timoška. Moravia encompasses the valley of the Velika Morava rivers and Timok — the valleys of the Beli and Cherni Timok rivers. Today, these areas are parts of Serbia, and long ago their inhabitants became Serbs like the rest of Šumadija Serbs. In the past, the local people had an interesting Bulgarian dialect, which has all the peculiarities of the Bulgarian language, as well as a typical Bulgarian folklore. With the development of the nation-state, with compulsory education and the adoption of the literary norm, dialects and regional distinctiveness are subject to gradual disappearance. The purpose of this book is not to search for large Bulgarian communities that no longer exist, but to trace their historical fate and the course of their assimilation through the eyes of authors who lived at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, most of whom studied these areas in the period 19151918, when these lands were within the borders of Bulgaria.
