   The diocese of Vidin, successor of the diocese of Ratiaria from the time of St. Constantine the Great (306—337), is officially known in the Christian world. The Diocese has preserved Orthodoxy in the Northwest Bulgarian lands throughout the centuries. The history of the Vidin ecclesiastical region reflects the aspirations for cultural and spiritual growth of the Bulgarians from the North-West, reflected so vividly throughout the centuries.
