Category: Early Modern Period
Language: Bulgarian
Lorenzo de' Medici (1449—1492), called the Magnificent, was an extraordinary personality with varied interests — a true emanation of the Italian Renaissance. He was a skilled statesman, diplomat, banker, poet, humanist and a patron of the arts. Under his guidance, Florence acquired a remarkable architectural aesthetic and became a center for artists from all over the world such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo da Vinci, etc. Lorenzo de' Medici had a large family, with most of his heirs being rulers and key figures in the European Renaissance, and one of his sons occupying the papal throne under the name Leo X. Lorenzo the Magnificent goes down in history with the unique system of city government that ensured his personal power without limiting the rights and freedoms of the people. In the complex world of Italian politics since the 15th century, the head of the Medici family has the main credit for the peaceful decades of peace, economic upswing and socio-cultural flourishing.
