The Bulgarian syntactic tradition reveals the philosophy and history of Bulgarian linguistics. The grammatical heritage stands in the field of the European syntactic tradition and can be seen as two separate branches of the Tree of Grammatical Knowledge: one growing out of the ancient tradition and developing in the иSlavia Orthodoxa culture as practical philology, and the other also growing out of the ancient tradition and developing in the field of Western European academia, where grammar is taught as one of the Seven Liberal Arts (Septem Artes Liberales).
