The founder of the modern Turkish state arrived in Sofia in November 1913. Mustafa Kemal came to Bulgaria after the two Balkan wars. During the wars, he was the head of the operational department of the headquarters in Gallipoli. In 1915, Mustafa Kemal left Bulgaria to join the First World War. In just a few months, his name will be mentioned in the world press as the hero of Anafarta, who inflicted a heavy defeat on the British during their Gallipoli campaign. Bulgaria helps the Kemalist revolution by sending ships with weapons. General Jafer Tayar's army in Eastern Thrace also received support, and when it was defeated, thousands of refugees crossed the border and found shelter in Bulgaria.
