     The book represents a historical overview of the emergence and establishment of the Slavic studies among the humanities during the nineteenth century. The genesis of individual Slavic disciplines, the formation of specilized terminology and the creative understanding of the leading scholarly paradigms in the European humanities are traced through the presentation of the activities and ideas of some of the most outstanding Slavists, as well as by translations of selected excerpts from their founding works.
