    Greek literature played an important role in the aesthetic formation of the Bulgarian poet Petko R. Slaveykov (18271895). This is due to the closeness of the Bulgarian and Greek people, the works of older poets who followed the Greek models, as well as the fact that Petko R. Slaveykov studied at a Greek college.
    During the years of his literary development Petko R. Slaveykov made a number of translations from Greek into Bulgarian and many of his works were influenced by Greek poets. Most of these works are from the Constantinople Literary School, but also Ionian poets, as well as Greek folk songs.
    Greek influence is noticeable in the metrical form of poems  Petko R. Slaveykov strictly follows the rhythm of Greek poetry. However, the topics in the originals reflect the personal soul of the poet. Almost everywhere Slaveykov imposes his own style and point of view and his translations and poems are distinguished by their simplicity and realism.
