James F. Clark. Americans discover Bulgarians 1834—1878
Американците откриват българите 1834—1878 г.
Language: Bulgarian
James F. Clark (1906—1982) is unanimously considered the "father of American Bulgarian studies". He was born in Bitola in the family of second generation American Protestant missionaries. He dedicated himself to the Bulgarian cause, engaging in the popularization of Bulgaria, the Balkans and Eastern Europe through his research on Bulgarian history and especially on the role of the USA in the Bulgarian national revival. James Clark's research included here provokes a new perspective on Bulgarian—American relations through the role of American intellectuals — missionaries, diplomats and journalists, in the fateful decades of national revival.
