    The present study is based on different ottoman sources and it is an attempt to reveal the role of the colonized yörük population in the regional economic development in Eastern Upper Thrace. These processes could be found in the establishment of settlement network and the changes in the economic activities of the seminomadic groups and more precisely, the changes from subsistence to dominant farming. The data from the ottoman taputahrir registers reveals ongoing changes for about a century in the area between Ottoman Rumeli and Atatolia. These changes affected also part of the numerous nomadic/seminomadic groups of yörüks. With no doubt their adaption to the conquered space – in demographic and economic sense depended on their farming and nomadic herding skills developed long before their migration to the Balkans.
