     This book provides the first overall study of the blood sacrifice (kurban) in the Muslim culture of Bulgaria. It is based mainly on data from the culture of the Bulgarian Muslims (Pomaks). Material concerning the blood sacrifice among the Pomaks of Eastern Albania, the Republic of Macedonia and Northern Greece is also included. In order to analyze some issues more fully comparisons are drawn with the culture of Turkish Sunites and Shiites living in Bulgaria and abroad.
