   The monograph is a continuation of the author's long-term research on the role of the flanking forces in the development of European integration - the USA, Great Britain and Turkey. The work is an attempt to fill a significant gap in the Bulgarian academic literature by offering a panoramic and in-depth presentation of the relations of the Ottoman state with Europe, the centuries-old attempts at its "Europeanization" and the more than 60-year aspiration of the Republic of Turkey towards full membership in the United Europe.
