In the dawn of the transition to a democratic society in Bulgaria after 1989 the rehabilitation of marginal authors and works has boomed. The literary map has gradually changed its scale, noting the "new" phenomena that have been blind spots in our literary thinking due to ideological reasons. However, the detailing did not change the tensions between the center and the periphery. The center remained the center — only the periphery became much richer. We continued to read the periphery through the canonical statements of the center.
Here, however, we take another approach: we will try to read the center through the peripheral assertions. Practically the task is to reactivate the already fossilized during the years academic science and textbook industry. But how much memory we have for these tensions? Memory for the clashes between Dr. Krastev and Yordan Marinopolski, between Pencho P. Slaveikov and Yordan Marinopolski? Memory helpfully reduces Marinopolski's opinions to "failures"...
Our literary critique marching together with the winners. However, Yordan Marinopolski (1874—1924) is one of the losers. Therefore, the purpose of the following pages is to try to establish the chronology of a literary and human defeat. This cannot only be ascertained through the works published in the voluminous editions of the classics, nor through the thin, never-republished brochures of our hero Marinopolski. Here, critique will be seen through literary and socio-political newspapers and magazines. But this criticism oscillates between authors and works, thanks to familiar and unfamiliar letters, as well as memoirs of interpersonal upheavals and downs.
