The study addresses the topic of livelihoods, which is not a priority of ethnological research today. The study reflects changes in settlement patterns, infrastructure, old and new "working positions", comparing settlements with "fading" livelihoods and declining demographic trend with others that are actively using their resources.
The monograph is divided into three parts, in which the traditional livelihoods for the border Pirin region and the changes that took place in them during socialism are successively commented on. Particular attention is paid to labor migration and tourism, which dominate as new "forms of livelihood" and have a significant impact on modern everyday culture.
