When our fathers, grandfathers and ancestors took part in wars: the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), the Serbian-Bulgarian War (1885), the Balkan Wars (19121913), the First World War (19151918) and the Second World War (1944-1945), they would bring to their homes many items from their military lives  cold arms and fire weapons as trophies, belongings of their dead enemies or things they crafted in the trenches in between battles. They made them from handy materials they could find around themselves  shell casings, unexploded projectiles, detonator caps, grenades, pieces of planes that went down, ect.
The items that soldiers and officers took back to their homes afterwards were aimed to be practical  to be used in everyday life as well as to keep the memories they brought. Very often the artefacts are engraved and dated, from which we now can know by whom, when, where and why a certain item was created. Some of these objects are crafted after the wars in peaceful times. They are more delicately shaped, but they are also included in the present catalog. All that, which has been created using military materials and whatever the soldiers and officers had on hand, is what we call soldier art.
