Several unknown photographs commissioned by the National Archaeological Museum, Sofia in the 1920s underlie this study, part of a long-lost Nessebar iconostasis, shedding new light on Nessebar’s cultural heritage and in particular on the fate of a huge amount of extant icons. The abundant photographic archive contains information of all the iconostases preserved until the early 20th century and of how icons were arranged on them.
