Epigraphy is a scholarly branch that studies inscriptions upon stone, ceramics, plaster, wall paintings, metal, wood, textile, etc. The Bulgarian Cyrillic epigraphy is a philologicalhistorical branch of knowledge and its subject is the form and contents of inscriptions upon non-traditional writing surface. The tradition to write on stone has been going through the centuries to continue after the adoption of Bulgarian writing as well. Certainly, the Christian religion and the change of the historical background have left their mark on the structure and nature of the inscriptions. We find described on stone essential events important for the state, the king or the local aristocrat, as well as for the ordinary man.
