Tsar Theodore Svetoslav from Terter Dynasty (1301—1322)
Цар Теодор Светослав от рода Тертер (1301—1322)
Language: Bulgarian. Category: Second Bulgarian Kingdom
The study centers on the reign of Tsar Svetoslav Terter (1301—1322), an important historical figure in Medieval Bulgarian history. He spent more than ten years as a hostage in Nicaea and the Golden Horde. After returning to his homeland and bloodlessly seizing power, the new ruler manages to end the struggles of the aristocracy and to render the decentralization tendencies, to neutralize the Mongol-Tatar dangers, to overcome Byzantine intervention and to strengthen the state. Nearly fifteen years of peace, secured to the country during his rule, were a significant achievement in those times — a period marked by a great economic and cultural upswing.
