   The book is divided into three parts. The first is dedicated to the fundamental problem of icons and iconoclasm in Bulgaria in the 9th and 14th centuries. The author is interested in the specifics, the cultural differences and similarities between the Byzantine and the Bulgarian icon painting school.

   The second part is dedicated to the construction of the human image. The medieval artist is seen not only as an icon painter, but also as a spiritual educator and mentor.
