Linda Ivanova. American Revolutionary War
Американската война за независимост
Category: Modern World History
Language: Bulgarian
We are used to seeing the United States of America as the most powerful country. However, the path to its independence was strewn with many obstacles and was determined by the complicated international relations in the second half of the 18th century. During this period, the American colonies were part of the British Empire, but their citizens resented taxes and trade restrictions, as well as the lack of adequate representation in institutions. The political elite in London did not find a solution to these contradictions, and they grew into an armed conflict, during which the idea of American independence was born and shaped. The English soldiers found that they were facing a capable and motivated opponent. The war progressed with mixed success until the intervention of France and Spain, which forced Britain to defend its conquests in different parts of the world. And when the guns fall silent, all are forced to recognize the birth of a new nation and a state whose rapid rise predetermines its permanent role on the stage of international relations.
