The book contains studies on the history, religious life, everyday life, folklore, art and literature of the Balkan peoples in the period 13th—17th century. Taken together, the texts present a dynamic and colorful picture of the Balkan world of the Late Middle Ages with its continuous transformation in the centuries before and after the Ottoman conquest. The selected topics correspond with Dr. Snezhana Rakova's research and form a kind of dialogue with some of her most significant works — war, diplomacy and trade in the Middle Ages; religiosity and reverence for the cult of saints; testimonies of Renaissance Italian authors about the Balkans.
