The author is a nephew of Stefan Shopov, who has completed military education in Russian Empire, in the Bulgarian army he is promoted to lieutenant colonel and in Italy he graduated as a civil engineer and defended his doctorate. In 1947 he was arrested by the authorities of Ministry of the Interior and became unknown until 1955, when he returned from the USSR, where he was in the Gulag camps. He was soon advised by doctors not to talk about the experience there. His health deteriorated and he died in 1963. After gaining access to his uncle's file in Bulgaria, the author collects and organizes all available data about his life.
