   The book outlines the main dimensions of a child's entry into language and the development of his or her speech skills during the early childhood period. Examples are presented from the speech production of monolingual and bilingual children, gathered over a two-year study of child language behaviour. Parallels are sought between childhood verbal displays in the native language and in foreign language acquisition. Concepts of playful pedagogical interaction that promote creative play with language are developed.
