Digito Ergo Sum: Blogging practices of Italian emigrants in the United States: Anthropological and linguistic analysis
Digito Ergo Sum. Блогови практики на италиански емигранти в Съединените щати
Language: Bulgarian

How real is the virtual world for us? How do we create our language image on the Internet and how do we interact with it? The book deals with personal writing in blogs as a way of being present in the world and a shared social practice. In a time of drastic life change, such as emigration, writing activates specific linguistic and cultural resources, helping to rethink and renegotiate the sense of identity and belonging. In this context the text functions as a mediator and writing uses the stabilizing function of words to shape new and unknown realities.

The methods of anthropology and linguistics have been applied to the blogging practices of Italian emigrants in the United States and through their prism the author address the problems related to code switching, multimodality, functions of personal writing, egodocuments and representation, identity dynamics, virtual community etc.
