     The edition contains texts dedicated to the church icon-painting tradition. The authors are contemporary theologians and art critics from Bulgaria, Greece, Russia, Serbia, Germany, France and Great Britain (Leonid Ouspensky, Paul Evdokimov, Deacon Andrey Kuraev, Julia Stankova, Karl Christian Felmy, St Sophrony Sakharov etc.). Various aspects of the iconodulism are discussed: the origin and development of church images, their theological interpretation and disputes about icons, artistic techniques in icon-painting, symbols and meanings in the icon, explanations related to the concept of canonicity of iconographic styles and subjects. The book seeks to answer the question of why the icon occupies such an important place in the church consciousness of the believer.
