         The book explores the role of Roma communities in the life of various states with different models of government, dominant religion and ethnic groups. The book presents a systematic and detailed study of the involvement of Roma/Gypsies in warfare. The study reveals an unfamiliar topic — the participation of Bulgarian Gypsies/Roma in the Bulgarian army in the period from 1878 to 1945. The displacement of Gypsies from India to Europe and their place in the military structures of the Byzantine, Ottoman and Medieval Bulgarian states was also examined.
