Childhood under Socialism: Political, Institutional and Biographical Perspectives
Ivan Elenkov, Daniela Koleva (eds.). Language: Bulgarian
The studies collected in this publication come as a result of the Centre for Advanced Study (Sofia) seminar series ”Childhood under Socialism”, which was organized in the broader framework of the two-year-long Atelier for Biographical Research. The surveys display a variety of views on the topic of the political projects on childhood imposed by the socialist regime in the course of the different stages of communist governance, the translations of ideological visions into institutional policies and the memories about socialist childhood in its public and private domain. The underlying idea of the book is the definition of a thematic field at the intersection of two recently developing areas — studies of socialism and childhood. The ambition of the authors has been, on the one hand, to present the multifaceted viewpoints on the period (political, social, existential, etc.) and on the other, to provoke scholars' thinking and their prospective research in this area.
