The laws of war have changed beyond recognition in recent years. Instead of conventional armies drones, artificial intelligence, hybrid campaigns and private, "invisible" and highly mobile paramilitary groups, whose existence and actions the Great Powers can easily deny, are increasingly being used.
In this new race, Russia is striving for a leading role. Over the last decade, Moscow has advanced more and more in the Middle East and Africa, regaining Soviet-era positions. It seeks to become an unavoidable global factor that the 'strong of the day' must take into account. Part of this policy involves the deployment of an "informal" presence from Ukraine through Syria to Libya, Sudan and the Central African Republic. The history of private military companies like Wagner Group reveals a mixture of ideology, geopolitics and a desire for access to natural resources.
Based on numerous documents and interviews, this book traces the development and mechanisms of this paramilitary group and other similar "invisible" armies, as well as their ideology, their specific subculture, and the business interests associated with them.
