The time of the Soldier Еmperors is one of the most controversial periods in the history of the Roman Empire. It spans the years from the end of the Severan dynasty (235) to the coming of Emperor Diocletian (284-305).  The study is devoted to nine years of the period: from 244 to 253 AD. These are the years in which the reigns of three emperors are recorded: Philip the Arab (M. Iulius Philippus) (244-249), Trajan Decius (Gaius Messius Quintus Decius) (249-251) and Trebonianus Gallus (Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus) (251-253). These years provide the opportunity to examine the beginning of the processes that dominated the empire during the following period of the Soldier Еmperors. Trends also emerge that justify and prepare the transition to an essentially new era, that of the Dominate.
